LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Featuring all 11 teams from the Mid-South Conference, the University of Pikeville women's bowling team topped them all in the Thomas Burris Memorial Classic on Friday at Eastland Lanes.
The Bears tallied a total pinfall of 6,607, topping its nearest competitor, Campbellsville, by over 100 pins. The Tigers claimed second with 6,492 pins and Union rounded out the top three with a score of 6,047.
UPIKE's success continued on the junior-varsity side where its JV1 team won the event and the JV2 squad took third place.
The event consisted of five team games, featuring a combined score of each bowler's 10-frames, and 12 Baker-style games where members of the team bowl individual frames to make up one team score. For example, the first bowler would complete frames one and six, the second bowler frames two and seven and so on.
With the win, the Bears improved to a perfect 30-0 on the season against competition from the MSC.
KT Simpson paced UPIKE, earning all-tournament team honors by placing fifth overall with a score of 911 through five games. The Bears also claimed four of the five all-tournament team spots on the junior-varsity side, including Angel West, Sarah Prince, Samantha Wilson and Christine Johnston.
West finished second overall in the classic with a score of 942 and Wilson finished just outside the overall top 10 in 12th place with a pinfall of 883.
On the varsity side, Jenna Coldiron backed up Simpson in 10th place with 884 pins.
