Â
WALESKA, Ga. – The accolades continue to roll in for University of Pikeville quarterback
Xavier Malone.
Â
Malone was named AAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after throwing for six touchdowns and running for another in UPike's win over Union Commonwealth University on Saturday night.
Â
It is the fourth time this season Malone has been the winner of the award.
Â
Malone was joined on the player of the week list this week by Kentucky Christian's Dashawn Webster, the defensive honoree, and Alex Hanson of Reinhardt (Ga.), the winner for special teams.
Â
Malone is a 6-1, 187-pound graduate student from Knoxville, Tenn. In Saturday's 49-14 win, he was 43 for 57 for 437 yards, as well as carrying the ball five times for 21 yards.
Â
His six passing touchdowns and one on the ground accounted for all seven scores for the Bears.
Â
The 43 completions marks both a school record and AAC high for Malone, passing
Lee Kirkland's mark of 41 set last season against St. Andrews. The 57 passes thrown was only one off the school benchmark.
Â
On Saturday, Malone threw scoring passes covering 34, 31, 20, 12, nine and eight yards. His scoring run was a one-yard plunge in the second quarter.
Â
For the season, Malone has thrown for 3,011 yards, which is second most in school history. He has completed 263 of 371 passes for 20 touchdowns. He also has four rushing touchdowns this season.
Â
UPike will play its final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Kentucky Christian University. Game time is 3 p.m. at the W.C. Hambley Athletics Complex.
