RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Rio Grande (Ohio) scored three first-half goals to gain the upper hand on the University of Pikeville women's soccer team before finishing with a 4-1 Mid-South Conference win on Wednesday at Evan E. Davis Stadium.
UPIKE (5-4, 1-3 MSC) scored the final goal of the game in the 70th minute as
Kayla Scott (8) finished off a pass from Kaitlin Abdon.
Kasey Crow paced the RedStorm (6-4, 3-1 MSC) with a pair of goals on a match-high six shots, including three on goal. Rio Grande led the match in shots 13-9, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on frame.
The first two scores came in the first 20 minutes as Carrie Mathes knocked in the opener in the 13th minute and Crow added what would be the game winner in the 20th. Karla Garn pinched in just before halftime to make it a 3-0 RedStorm lead.
Fourteen minutes into the second half it was 4-0 after Crow's second goal, giving Rio Grande a large cushion to work with over the final 30 minutes.
Chelsea Schulte went the distance in goal for the Bears, collecting three saves, while Allison Keeney came up with three as well.
Corner kicks went in Rio Grande's favor 6-4 and fouls went towards UPIKE 9-8.
The Bears are back in action at 6 p.m. ET on Friday at No. 13 Cumberland in Lebanon, Tenn.
