Box Score
PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Kayla Scott sailed in a shot for a 70th-minute goal, but it wasn't enough against No. 1 Lindsey Wilson as the University of Pikeville women's soccer team lost 5-1 to the defending national champions on Saturday at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex.
Before Scott put the Bears on the board, the Blue Raiders had already put up a second-minute strike from Alice Coyne and Renee Hurd added a goal in the 14th to take Lindsey Wilson into halftime up 2-0.
It took less than five minutes into the second half for Coyne to add her second goal off an assist from Hurd, but neither team was able to add a goal over the next 20 minutes.
Lindsey Wilson outshot Pikeville 18-3, including a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Blue Raiders tied a season-best against the Bears with six corner kicks. UPIKE goalkeeper
Chelsea Schulte collected seven saves and her counterpart Johanna Henrikson finished with one.
The Blue Raiders were whistled for seven fouls, compared to just two for UPIKE.
Scott provided some excitement for the home crowd to make it a 3-1 game late in the second half.
Morgan Abner had drawn Henrikson out to block her shot and Scott instantly sent the rebound high over any defenders and landed it perfectly into the back of the net from just outside the penalty box.
Lindsey Wilson responded with Hurd's second goal in the 79th minute and Natasha Gensetter finishing a pass through the middle of the field by Ayaki Shinada to close out the scoring in the 84th.
UPIKE returns to action at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday against Shawnee State (Ohio) at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex.
