Georgetown Defense too tough in 2-0 Loss for Women’s Soccer

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Limited to just one shot, the University of Pikeville women's soccer team was topped by Georgetown (Ky.) 2-0 on Saturday night at iHigh Field, bringing an end to its 2013 season.

Kaitlyn Abdon chased down a loose ball mere feet from the goal in the 87th minute, but her close-range attempt was saved by Georgetown's Danielle Lang to preserve the win.

The Tigers led by just one goal up until the 85th minute when Sam Amend scored her second of the game. Amend struck first with 16 seconds left in the first half to take the Tigers into halftime up 1-0.

Amend led all players with four shots, placing all of them on frame. Chelsea Schulte made five saves for the Bears.

Georgetown led corner-kicks 5-0, but was fouled two more times by UPIKE at 4-2.

The Bears close the year with a 7-8-1 overall record and 1-7-1 mark in the Mid-South Conference. UPIKE had to win against Georgetown to qualify for the eight-team MSC Championship.
