PIKEVILLE, Ky. –
Carmen Koster isn't afraid to take a shot from anywhere on the field for the University of Pikeville women's soccer team. And on Friday, she placed three deep attempts into the back of the net to help the Bears beat Ohio Christian 7-1 in the regular-season opener at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex.

Koster finished with the hat-trick, while Kayla Scott, Callie Osborne, Chelsee Carlos and Karlee Mason all added one goal each. Mason was the only Pikeville player to score off the bench, issuing the match's final goal in the 71st minute.

Six goals in the largest winning margin for UPIKE since it beat Berea (Ky.) 11-1 in 2010.

The Bears were relentless on the attack, finishing with a 23-5 shot advantage, including a 16-5 difference in shots on goal. Koster took seven shots in the match and Scott finished with six.

It took just over 15 minutes for UPIKE to strike first as Carlos took a pass from Koster in the center of the penalty box for a straightaway score.  Five minutes later Koster stopped 10 yards beyond the box and scorched in her first goal of the night.

After a whistle for inadvertent contact mere feet from the goal, Ohio Christian took advantage of a free kick on the restart for its only goal of the game by Katelyn Donner. Lexi Paas played a short tap over to Donner who finished it past goalkeeper Chelsea Schulte from point-blank range.

Pikeville added one more goal before halftime for a 3-1 lead at the break before pouring on four more second-half goals in the 55th, 56th, 59th and 71st minutes.

UPIKE led corner-kick chances 4-1 and finished with a 7-2 foul advantage.

The Bears return to action at 1 p.m. ET on Monday at Ohio Valley in Vienna, W. Va.
