Women’s Soccer Edged at St. Catharine 2-1

ST. CATHARINE, Ky. – Michelle Dunaway received a corner kick in the 86th minute and finished the game-winning goal into the back of the net, helping St. Catharine (Ky) edge the University of Pikeville 2-1 on Thursday.

It was UPIKE (3-2, 0-1 MSC) that took the first lead as Kayla Scott scored off a cross from Carmen Koster in the 24th minute. Scott led the Bears with two shots in the match, while St. Catharine led UPIKE 8-5 in attempts overall.

The 1-0 lead lasted through halftime and wasn't challenged until over 14 minutes into the second half when Chelsey Landrum tied the match off an assist from Macy Higdon.

It was an evenly played affair over the next 25 minutes until the Patriots got the perfect corner to deliver the 86th-minute match winner.

Both teams finished with four corner kicks, while Pikeville led the match in fouls 5-2.

Bear goalkeeper Chelsea Schulte scooped up three saves and Lindsey Vinson had one save for St. Catharine (4-1, 1-0 MSC). Both keepers played the full 90 minutes.

Pikeville returns to action at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday at Benedictine University at Springfield in Springfield, Ill.
