Women’s Soccer Loses Battle at Ohio Valley 3-2

VIENNA, W. Va. – The University of Pikeville women's soccer team came up short at Ohio Valley (W. Va.), losing 3-2 despite taking 1-0 lead late in the first half on Monday.

Carmen Koster scored the match's first goal in the 37th minute, her fourth of the season in just two games, but the Fighting Scots issued the equalizer just a minute later.

UPIKE wouldn't score again until the 78th minute on a goal from Kayla Scott (2), but Ohio Valley had already added scores in the 51st and 58th minutes to build up to the 3-2 win.

Although it came up on the losing side of the scoreboard, Pikeville (1-1) led the match in shots 15-8, including an 8-5 lead in shots on goal. The Fighting Scots were more physical, leading the foul calls 19-7, while both teams were whistled offsides four times each.

Corner-kick chances went to Ohio Valley with a slight 3-2 advantage.

The Bears are back on the field at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday at Cincinnati Christian.
