Men’s and Women’s Bowling Exit ITC National Championships

Results

WICHITA, Kan. -- It was a tough Friday for the University of Pikeville men's and women's bowling teams as they were eliminated from the 2015 XBowling Intercollegiate Team Championships at Northrock Lanes.

The 13th-seeded men's trip was cut short early in the morning after letting a 3-0 lead over No. 5 Purdue slip away as the Boilermakers won four straight games to stay alive in the loser's bracket.

UPIKE's fourth-seeded women entered the day as one of four teams without a loss, but were beaten by Robert Morris (Ill.) 4-3 in the quarterfinals before being eliminated by top-seeded Wichita State 4.5-1.5.

While the men were making their first trip to the ITC's since 2011, it was a tough way to go out as they let a 3-1 lead slip away against McKendree (Ill.) in the first round, followed by Friday's result against Purdue.

It was still a successful campaign as they won seven regular-season tournaments and claimed the 2015 Mid-South Conference Men's Bowling Championship. UPIKE's Zachary Fylling, who competed at the ITC's, was named the MSC's top bowler, whole Matt Diamond was named the conference's best freshman.

The Bear women put together one of the best seasons in program history, even if it didn't end with a third ITC national title.

UPIKE can still claim a national championship after winning the NAIA Invitational and opened the season winning its first 12 tournaments, including the MSC Championship.

Add in a 2-0 showing on the first day of the ITC's and it was without a doubt a season to be proud of for the Bears.
