PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Summer break is officially over for University of Pikeville athletics as the women's soccer program supplies the first action of the 2015-16 school year at Florida College on Friday.
The Bears and Falcons, who are also opening their 2015 campaign, are scheduled to kickoff at 5 p.m. ET in Temple Terrace, Fla. No live media is available of the game, but a recap and stats will be posted at UPIKEBears.com following the action.
This is the first meeting between UPIKE and Florida College in women's soccer. The Bears are coming off an 8-9 overall record last season with a 2-5 mark in Mid-South Conference play. The Falcons are a member of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) and finished with a 7-7-2 record in 2014.
UPIKE's challenge on the night will be slowing down sophomore striker Michelle Rodriguez who paced the Falcons last season with nine goals and six assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Abby Montanez is also back after collecting 37 saves in nine games played.
Scoring may not be the biggest question for the Bears as their top two returning goal scorers, seniors Kaitlyn Abdon (13) and Jasmine Davis (5), are back. Instead, UPIKE will be looking for someone to step into the starting role in goal where it lost four-year starter Chelsea Schulte to graduation.
