Women’s Soccer Shut Out in MSC Opener at Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville women's soccer team was shut out for the first time this season, dropping a 7-0 decision at Georgetown in the Mid-South Conference opener.

The Tigers (6-0, 1-0 MSC) shot out to a 5-0 lead at halftime behind two goals from Jodi Dejohn before adding two more in the final 45 minutes. The first score came in the 13th minute from Skye Zimmer and the finale came from Cassidy Hatfield in the 89th.

Shots went in favor of Georgetown 15-4, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. DeJohn led the attack with five shots, leading to UPIKE (0-5, 0-1 MSC) keeper Bryanna Schroers having to come up with five saves. Danielle Lang picked up the clean sheet for the Tigers with three saves.

Bibian Borst tried to get things going for the Bears, taking three of the team's four shots, placing all three on target, but not past the stingy Lang. Hayden Bentley added a shot attempt off the bench.

Georgetown got the advantage of five corner kicks while not allowing the Bears to earn any. Keeping with the trend, fouls also went the Tigers' way at 5-3 and they held a 6-1 lead in being called offside.

Only two of the Tigers' goals were assisted as Sarah Hencke picked up a dime on DeJohn's 19th-minute blast and Mackenzie Zimmers sent a cross to Hencke in the 38th.

UPIKE will get back on the pitch at 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday, hosting Asbury at the Bob Amos Complex.
