BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Bibian Borst had the eighth-seeded University of Pikeville women's soccer team thinking upset with her 13th-minute, tying goal, but in the end, top-seeded Lindsey Wilson had too much strength as it went on to win 7-1 in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Championship on Thursday.
Borst hadn't scored all season, but came up with her second career goal on the biggest stage of the year.
Her unassisted strike from just outside the penalty box came just three minutes after Lyana Perez gave the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead off a cross from Delfina Santellan.
Once the score was tied at 1-1, Lindsey Wilson (13-3) got its go-ahead goal in the 15th minute from Santellan, then made it a two-score contest with a boot from Yvonne Ploeg just one minute later.
Lindsey Wilson's Ivana Damnjanovic netted the final goal of the half in the 25th minute as the teams played scoreless for the final 20 minutes.
The Blue Raiders would add three more goals in the second half, including one from Perez to make it 5-1 in the 73rd minute, followed by back-to-back strikes from Ploeg in the 87th and 90th minutes to give her a hat trick.
UPIKE (7-12) was outshot 26-2 overall and 16-2 in shots put on goal. Corner-kick chances went the Blue Raiders' way 10-5, as did offside calls, 14-1.
Other than Borst's goal, UPIKE's other shot attempt came from Paulina Ruiz, which was also on target before being saved by Johanna Henriksson. Bryanna Schroers played the first 80 minutes in goal for the Bears, collecting nine saves, before handing the game over to Caitlyn Hunt.
Ploeg paced Lindsey Wilson with eight shots, putting all but one on target.
The Bears end the 2016 season with a 7-12 overall record.
