WICHITA, Kan. -- After winning its first match since 2009 on Thursday, the No. 5 -seed University of Pikeville men's bowling team couldn't find another one in the contender's bracket of the Intercollegiate Team Championship (ITC) on Friday, losing to No. 8-seed Calumet-St. Joseph 4-2 in an elimination match at Northrock Lanes.
The Crimson Wave barely got past UPIKE in game one 192-191, which seemed to energizer the Bears as they quickly evened up the series with a dominant 254-194 showing in game two.
Momentum carried over into the third game where UPIKE outlasted Calumet 203-184 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, but the Crimson Wave were just heating up as they reached a new level over the next three games.
Calumet rattled off three straight wins by scores of 244-192, 230-180 and 236-192 to push itself into round five of the contender's bracket where it will face hometown favorite and fourth-seeded Wichita State.
UPIKE closes the 2015-16 season with one tournament victory at the Green River Classic and four runner-up finishes, including taking second place at the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
