No. 1 Cumberland Shuts Out No. 8 Women’s Soccer 7-0 in MSC Quarters

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Top-seeded Cumberland scored five first-half goals on its way to a 7-0 win over No. 8-seed University of Pikeville in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Friday morning at Warren Central High School.

Rebecca Holloway scored two goals and added two assists to lead the offensive attack. Cierra Lundy added two goals as well -- one in each half -- for the Phoenix. Savannah Moreland, Sarah Haddock and Keera Sidney each scored a goal as well.

Holloway struck first in the seventh minute and the Phoenix wouldn't score again until the 21st when she issued a cross to Moreland for the assist. After leading 5-0 at the break, Cumberland slowed down its attack in the final 45 minutes as Lundy in the 71st and Sidney in the 88th were the only goals scored.

Pikeville (1-16-1) was outshot in the match, 28-3, with two attempts by Skylar Chapman and one from Macarena Acuna. None of them were put on goal.

Caitlyn Hunt went the distance in goal for UPIKE, claiming nine saves, while Cumberland's Ashley Kambeitz had the clean sheet without having to make a stop.

Cumberland (13-4-1) advances to the semifinals of the tournament to be played next weekend in Bowling Green.
