Letscher Named NCBCA Men’s Bowling Rookie of the Year

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Andrew Letscher is the first National Collegiate Bowling Coaches' Association (NCBCA) Rookie of the Year to come from the University of Pikeville men's bowling team since 2006, officials from the association announced on Wednesday night during the annual awards banquet on the eve of the Intercollegiate Team Championships.

Before Letscher, the only Pikeville bowler to be named the nation's top rookie was Ronnie Sparks Jr., in 2006.

Letscher didn't stop there on Wednesday night as he also grabbed NCBCA Second Team All-American honors and was an Honorable Mention All-American with the International Bowling Media Association (IBMA).

It's already been an award-winning year for the freshman who was also named the NAIA Rookie of the Year and Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year, as well as being a Second Team All-MSC selection.

The Canfield, Ohio native earned an MSC Player of the Week honor in January and made the Hoosier Classic All-Tournament Team with a fourth-place finish out of over 500 bowlers with a total pin fall of 1,335.

Letscher and his UPIKE teammates open play in the ITC at 9:30 a.m. ET on Thursday with 24 games of Baker-format qualifying.
