TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. – UPIKE women's soccer kept the momentum rolling in grand fashion on Saturday, picking up a 4-0 win in the first half of today's women's/men's doubleheader.
The win is UPIKE's third in a row and was also Erica Burkhardt's first shutout of the season.
Pikeville stepped on the gas early with two goals in the first seven minutes; the first from freshman Taylor Stamper, her second on the season, and the second from Skylar Chapman, her first.
UPIKE's recent goal scoring machine got in on the action later in the first half as Emily Branham scored her team-high fourth goal on the season in the 37th minute to give Pikeville a comfortable three-goal lead.
On Stamper and Branham's goals, the sister combo of Jillian and Jackie Kidd each picked up an assist.
The Bears added an extra insurance goal in the second half from yet another freshman – Kylie Maynard – which is also her first of the season, while Chapman picked up the assist.
UPIKE's defenders also limited the hard work for Burkhardt in goal, allowing Toccoa Falls to get just six shots on goal in the contest.
