Bears Archery Claims Runner-Up at 3D Nationals After Record-Breaking Weekend


Foley, AL -UPIKE Archery completed what was a record weekend at the USA Archery 3D Nationals held Saturday and Sunday. The Bears finished second in the nation with a medal count that included two gold, four silver for individuals and five gold, three silver in team play.

UPIKE archery continued it's rise as a top competitor in the national circuit once again, breaking an impressive 14 school records along the way.

Individually it was Kay Falter and Bella Barrett who claimed gold medals for the Bears, earning 10 points towards the team's cumulative total. Falter took the top spot in the Barebow Recurve event with a 371, setting a new program record and added 11 bonus rings. Barrett finished the Olympic Recurve event with a 433, her full score setting a new program record as she went on to claim the gold.

Senior Recurve shooter AJ Clements scored a 464, contributing eight points to the team total for the Bears and earning himself a silver medal finish. Clements finished just two points shy of the winner from Texas A&M, firing for 19 bonus rings in the event.

The Bear's second silver medal came by way of Allison Collinsworth who took second in the Barebow Recurve with a score of 361. The Hazel Green, KY native hit a trio of bonus rings in her performance that gave the Bears eight points.

In the Olympic Recurve it was veteran shooter Ana McFarland who led the charge for UPIKE, taking a silver medal with a score of 430. McFarland etched herself into the program record book with her half score as well.

Lastly for the individual silver medals was Mason Hess who has had much success early in his college career for the Bears. Hess shot 364, hitting four bonus rings to finish second.

In the mixed team play, the duo of Clements and Barrett claimed the top spot in Olympic recurve with a score of 840. The two defeated MSC foes Lindsey Wilson (783) and Cumberlands (822) in the event and secured the gold.

In Mixed Barebow, Hess and Falter led the Bears to victory with a team total of 704. Hess shot a 364 while Falter notched a 340 and together the two nailed 13 bonus rings. The duo defeated second place finisher Lindsey Wilson by 26 points.

Mixed equipment trio Ana Scarbrough, Silas Ratliff, and Clements also claimed an important achievement for the team, defeating perennial champion Cumberlands.

Adding to the program's record outing this year was both the women's compound and bowhunter wins which are the first golds ever for UPIKE archery in a national tournament.

Overall, the Bears tallied 154 points to finish runner-up in the final tally. Cumberlands took the top spot with a 166. UPIKE's point breakdown saw individuals contribute 67 points, mixed teams totaled 29 and team play added 58 points.

UPIKE archery will shoot again in the spring, heading to Williamsburg, KY for the Outdoor Regionals slated for April 15th through the 16th.
