Pikeville, KY – Women's soccer notched their first goal of the 2020-21 season on Thursday via
Mya Holmes who sent a rocket to the back corner of the net less than 10 minutes into UPIKE's game against Georgetown. Despite the early lead, the Bears fell 3-1 in the matchup.
UPIKE shot just twice in the first period, with Holmes goal being the first.
Kylie Golilhue missed wide later in the period on a chance Tiger's territory. The Bears played tough defense in the first quarter, tallying a team save and thwarting Georgetown on two corner kick attempts. The Tiger's finally managed to even up the contest with 20 minutes left in the period on what would be their lone goal of the first half.
Six minutes into the second half,
Jillian Kidd put a shot on goal that was saved by the Georgetown keeper as both teams worked tirelessly to take the lead. In the 54
th minute, the Tigers attacked twice, one shot was saved impressively by UPIKE's
Elizabeth Lukens but the second found net and gave Georgetown the lead.
Luken's survived a barrage of shots from the Tigers throughout the second period, tallying five saves. Georgetown would get their final goal and the final score of the game altogether with 7:46 remaining, making it 3-1. UPIKE totaled five more shots in the contest but came up empty and lost their sixth straight contest.
