Pikeville, KY – Men's golf kicked off the 2021 fall campaign at Stonecrest Monday and Tuesday in a match that would come down to the wire. The Bears finished runner up after a battle on the final hole while freshman CJ Corum led the way in a stellar debut that earned him all-tournament team honors and a fourth place finish.
Head Coach
Dustyn Reinstetle made his debut at the reins on Monday, wrapping up the first 18-holes with a team score of 297 (+9) to hold a one stroke lead. Former 9
th Region Player of the Year CJ Corum came out of the gate hot, firing a birdie on hole one before shooting the team's only eagle on the day on hole two. After birdies on eight and 14, the freshman finished his first collegiate round with an outstanding 69 (-3) on the day to hold the individual lead.
On day two it was
Blake Maupin who would manage the top individual score, finishing +1 on the day with his best hole coming from a birdie on seven. The team as a whole declined a pair of strokes over the day one performance, finishing at 299 (+11) for a 36-hole score of 596. Roane State Community College would claim the crown with a two-stroke edge over the Bears after pulling together an impressive stretch on holes 16 through 18.
Maupin joined Corum in the top 10 on the final leaderboard, finishing in seventh with a 148 (+14).
Broc Crist also made the top 10 for the first time in his career, clubbing scores of 77 and 74 to finish with 151 (+17).
Freshman
Nate Feese clubbed a solid 153 (+19) in his collegiate debut, dropping five birdies along the way.
Tyler Ford tied for 30
th with a 36-hole score of 164, landing his first collegiate birdie in round two on the 16
th hole. Individual golfer
Nick Garrett wrapped up with a 169, shooting for birdie on holes three and 13 on day one.
The Bears are back at Stonecrest Golf Course this weekend, set to host the UPIKE Invitational starting Saturday, September 25
th.
