Clements Claims Gold; Bears Finish Third at USA Archery 3D Nationals

Foley, Ala. – Bears archery returns to Pikeville with 13 medals following this weekend's third place finish out of 32 teams at the USA Archery 3D Nationals. AJ Clements played a pivotal role, earning an individual gold medal and aiding the mixed equipment team to a top finish.

Individual rounds

Clements secured the top finish by 16 points in the recurve, shooting the best scores in the event both rounds (216, 224). The Georgia native hit 24 12s, besting Lindsey Wilson's T. Sanchez by three. Clements has now claimed gold in three straight tournaments as an individual.

Allison Collinsworth totaled 374 in the women's barebow event, shooting scores of 162 and 188, the latter coming in as the second-best single round score in the competition. Collinsworth hit three 12s to secure the bronze out of 50 archers. The sophomore extends her podium streak after landing runner-up in two straight events to open the season.

Newcomer Nate Harper has excelled in his debut season, topping the leaderboard at both the USA 3D Regionals and the MSC 3D Championships in September. The Ohian added another piece of hardware to his collection with a third-place finish in the fixed pins event. Harper totaled 456 points, matching second place finisher Brandon Durham of Cumberlands, who claimed the tiebreak with 17 12s.

Team Rounds

The Bears wrapped up team rounds with six total medals featuring one gold, four silver, and one bronze. Claiming the top spot in the women's barebow was the trio of Emma Terry, Kye Babcock and Collinsworth. The team began with a 72-34 victory over KCU before taking down rival Cumberlands 69-64 in the semifinals. The finals match saw the Bears claim gold with a 62-58 win over Lindsey Wilson.

Both the men's and women's teams took silver in the recurve events. The men's trio of Daniel Clayton, Tim Smith, and Clements took down Cumberlands by 10 before falling to Texas A&M in the finals. The women's team of Anastasia McFarland, Olivia Hale, and Bella Barrett earned a first-round bye before taking down Cumberlands 94-78 in the semifinals. The finals round was a matchup with Texas A&M where the Bears took silver, falling 92-75.

Olivia Hay, Anna Scarbrough, and Alyssa Tenney finished second in the women's compound in a silver medal run that included a 90-64 semifinal win over Muskingum.
Caleb Emrick, Jordan Goble, and Harper took bronze in the fixed pin, totaling an 89 in the final round. The team defeated Wabash Valley by 23 in the quarterfinals before shooting the third best score in the semi-finals. In the finals round, the trio shot a 34 on the third end, the highest single round score in the event.

Mixed Team Rounds

The Bears earned three medals in mixed team play with a runner-up and two third place finishes. Bella Barrett and AJ Clements finished second of nine in the recurve, totaling 841 which was 20 short of winner Texas A&M. The duo bested third-place Cumberlands by 15.

In the compound it was Matthew Russell and Alyssa Tenney who collected bronze, four points shy of runner-up Cumberlands.
Collinsworth and Foster Jones made up the barebow duo which nabbed bronze, totaling 680 points to finish third of nine.

Harper, Tenney, and Clements finished first of 19 in the mixed equipment to give the Bears their final gold medal. After shooting the third best qualifying score, the trio bested Hocking College and Lindenwood before taking down Lindsey Wilson in the semifinals. The Bears outscored Texas A&M 130-103 to claim the title.

Bears archery wraps up the fall 3D campaign with a pair of podium team finishes and an array of medals. Head Coach Ellie Jackson now shifts focus to indoor, which opens in January.
