Richmond, KY – Men's golf opened the spring schedule this weekend with a fourth place finish in the 10-team Invitational at Boone Trace. The 36-hole event saw
Blake Maupin tie for tournament runner-up and
Broc Crist finish sixth, both claiming All-Tournament distinctions.
Day one brought strong winds and less than ideal playing conditions for the team but the Bears prevailed, shooting a 313 (+25) to sit at third after 18 holes. On the second day, UPIKE shot a 316 (+28) which dropped them to fourth after 36 holes. Spalding College won the event with a score of 612 (308, 304) while Thomas More carded a 615 (309, 306) to claim the runner-up.
Maupin shot a 77 (+5) on Saturday which had him in eighth, making a six position climb to his eventual runner-up finish. The senior followed up with a three-stroke improvement on his day one effort, carding a 74 (+2) on Sunday. Maupin shot for par on all but two holes in the showing, holding steady at +1 through 15 holes. The top-five finish is his fourth since the start of the 2021-22 campaign. Maupin's 36-hole score of 151 put him in a three way tie for second and was four strokes back from the winning score of 147.
Broc Crist had a breakout showing in the opening round with a 76 (+4) which tied him for fourth heading into the second day. Crist tallied a trio of birdies in the round, one coming on hole two which is a par three. On day two, Crist remained solid and tallied at 77 (+5), landing him in All-Tournament territory.
Nate Feese clubbed an 82 (+10) on Saturday, making a four-stroke improvement on Sunday with a 78 (+6). Feese held steady to finish 24
th of 60 golfers.
Tyler Ford managed a 78 (+6) on day one which was a top ten score and featured a pair of birdies. The freshman struggled on Sunday, hindered by two double-bogeys on the back nine, finishing with an 87 (+15). Nick Garret shot scores of 89 (+17) and 94 (+22).
