Bluefield, Va. – UPIKE women's soccer is 2-0 for the first time since the 2014 following Saturday afternoon's dominating 5-0 showing. Five different Bears scored in the contest, including
Julia Pinson who's three goals lead the Bears.
The Bears brought the firepower on offense, recording 20 shots, placing 11 on frame. Bluefield managed just a single shot, which was saved by Bears keeper
Millicent Conod.
Kylie Gollihue led the
Bears offensively, firing five shots and scoring her second goal of the season. Pinson legged her third goal of the season while
Ariel Herter,
Isabella Caldwell, and
Lillie Kluesner managed their first.
Gollihue got the scoring started early with a Holmes-assisted goal in the 14
th minute to put the Bears up 1-0. UPIKE managed nine shots in the first half, dominating the time of possession.
In the 35
th minute, Herter fired for a penalty kick to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
Lillie Kluesner expanded the Bears lead to three with a goal in the 38
th minute. Just a minute later, Riley Collet placed a shot which maintained the offensive pressure.
The next two Bears goals came within three minutes of one another as Pinson scored in the 84
th minute before Caldwell scored one final time in the 86
th minute.
The Bears return to the pitch on Wednesday, August 31
st for their home opener against Midway which is slated for 6:30 PM.
