Laconia, Ind. – UPIKE men's golf opened the 2022 season over the weekend, posting a two-day score of 597 (+21) to finish second in the Battle at Chariot Run. Freshman
Jonathan Bryant completed an impressive debut, tying the lowest single round score in program history with his 66 (-6) performance on Sunday.
Spalding earned the top team spot in the five-team event, posting a two-round score of 586 (+10). The Bears carded a 299 through the first 18, improving a stroke on day two to climb into second.
Two Bears finished in the top ten, led by Pikeville native Bryant who finished tied for third with an 18-hole score of 145. Bryant climbed eight spots on Sunday with his unprecedented score of six under par. After shooting 79 (+7) in the opening round, Bryant tallied an eagle and six birdies on Sunday, including two instances of three straight birdies (holes 9,10,11 and 16,17,18). In his collegiate debut he ties Will Boyd who carded the same score in 2014 at the UPIKE Fall Invitational.
South African newcomer
Joshua Wiese also impressed in his Bears debut, finishing fifth with a two-round score of 147 (+3). Wiese carded a 70 (-2) on Saturday to head into day two tied for second place. The Eastern Wyoming CC transfer clubbed five birdies through the first 18, adding three more in the second round.
Elsewhere in the top 10 was
Blake Maupin who tied for eighth overall, carding a 151 (+7). The senior recorded an eagle and a birdie in round one to finish the day with a 75 (+3). Day two saw the Richmond native tally four birdies to score a 76 (+4).
Senior
Broc Crist placed 11
th in his 2022 debut with a 154 (+10), carding a 77 (+5) on both days.
Nate Feese also tied for 11
th, recording scores of 75 (+3) and 79 (+7).
Lawson Hon finished tied for 19
th with scores of 84 (+12) and 80 (+8) while
Tyler Robinson placed 25
th with an 18-hole score of 171.

th for the Alice Lloyd hosted ALC Eagle Invitational held at StoneCrest Golf Course.
