Lake Wales, Fl. - UPIKE capped off a two-game trip to Florida with a 1-1 tie against Warner University.
Freshman forward Carly Groh got the Bears on the scoreboard in the 13' to take an early 1-0 lead. Groh's goal was her first of the season and was the only shot the Bears took in the first half. On the other end of the field, sophomore goalkeeper Millicent Conod made her third start in net this season. Conod stopped all three first-half Warner shots on goal.
In the second half the Royals attempted 13 shots, six of which were on net. Bears keeper Millicent Conod held the Royals in check until Warner found the back of the net in the 85'. Conod would finish the game with eight saves on nine shots. Shortly after the Warner goal, the Bears came very close to taking the lead off a great centering pass by Carly Groh that was cleared shortly after by Warner's defense. That would be the last big scoring chance for both sides and the game ended with a 1-1 tie.
Today's matchup against the Royals was the Bears' final non-conference game of the regular season. The Bears will hit the road to McKenzie, Tenn. to open up Mid-South Conference play against the Bethel Wildcats on Thursday night.
