Box Score Laurinburg, N.C. - UPIKE women's soccer notched their fifth AAC win over the season after a 1-0 road victory over St. Andrews.
UPIKE controlled the pace in the first half of this game, outshooting the Knights 6-1 in the first 45. Despite having the edge in shot attempts, the Bears could not find the back of the net in the first half. Charlene Lofqvist led UPIKE with two shots in the first half.
The Bears came out in the second half and had two corner kicks in the first seven minutes. UPIKE continued to apply the pressure on SAU and finally broke through. Alix Herter connected with Charlene Lofqvist in the 57' for the first goal of the match.
Despite taking the lead, the Bears continued to apply pressure. UPIKE had three shots and two corner kicks following the goal.
UPIKE's defense locked down the Knights, allowing just two shots on goal in the final 32 minutes. Millie Conod turned away both SAU shots to keep the clean sheet. Conod now has three shutouts this season.
The Bears' record climbs to 6-8-2 (5-5-2 AAC) following today's victory over the Knights. Coach Logan Langseth's team will return to action Wednesday afternoon for a match with No. 20 Truett McConnell.
