Bears blanked by Milligan

MILLIGAN, Tenn. - University of Pikeville women's soccer was shutout 1-0 by the Milligan Buffaloes Saturday afternoon.  

UPIKE got the offense going early, with six shot attempts in the first 18 minutes of the match. Ellie Webb had a header attempt on frame in the 3' but it was turned away by MU's Akyla Walcott. Webb had the next shot on goal ten minutes later, but Walcott also made a save.  

The Bears continued to apply the pressure early but could not find the back of the net. After dominating possession and shot attempts, Milligan had their first shot on goal in the 34' minute. MU's Shelby Knight fired a shot on frame, but Millie Conod stood tall and made the save. Neither team scored in the first half and the teams went to the halftime break tied 0-0. UPIKE did hold a 15-4 advantage in shot attempts in the first 45.  

Milligan got their offense going early in the second, with three corner kicks and a pair of shot attempts in first 13 minutes of the second half. The Buffaloes gained some early momentum and used it to score the first goal of the match. MU's Halle Steele fired a shot that ended in the back of the net to put the Buffaloes up 1-0 in the 65'.  

From minutes 70' to 79', the Bears made a big push. UPIKE had five shot attempts (three on frame) and had one corner kick opportunity, but none found the back of the net. Bianca Ostlund had the Bears' last great scoring chance with a header in the 85' but MU's Walcott made the save. Milligan held on and won the match 1-0.  

UPIKE finished the match with 21 shot attempts, 14 on frame. Rebekah Christopher had a game-high five shots on goal, followed by Charlene Lofqvist with three. Emily Stapleton and Ellie Webb also had two shots each. In net, Millie Conod stopped two of Milligan's three shots.  

Coach Logan Langseth's team finishes the regular season with a record of 8-6-2 (6-5-2 AAC).
