PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – University of Pikeville men's and women's swimming took on Shawnee State, Midway University, and WVU-Tech this weekend.
RJ Goins led the men's team with two bronze medals, one in the 100 backstroke and the other in the 200 backstroke. Jacob Rubado had one third-place finish which came in the 200 breaststroke and a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Benjamin McLauchlan finished one spot behind Goins in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:11.16.
The men's team was defeated 129-60 to Midway, 174-38 to Shawnee State, and 157-54 to WVU-Tech.
On the women's side, Madelyn Smith had a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 breasktroke events. Smith also came in fourth in the 200 freestyle. Kaylin Hatfield came in third in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 200 individual medley. Daylin Patrick's best finish came in the 200 backstroke where she swam a time of 3:10.06 and finished in fourth place.
In the head-to-head team scores, UPike was defeated 165-34 by Midway and 134-39 by Shawnee State.
The swim Bears will hit the pool again on November 8th in Lexington, Ky., for a meet with Transylvania University.
