WISE, Va. - University of Pikeville men's tennis were defeated 7-0 by UVa. -Wise in their season opener Friday afternoon.  

Haithem Rabbouche and Ahmed Hassairi opened doubles play with a 3-6 loss to UVa.-Wise's Yi-Hsuan Chen and Chathuraya Nilaweera. The Cavaliers secured the doubles team point after Miguel De Rueda and Daniel Gonzalez defeated Matthew Rodgers and Anton Hofmann 6-2. Mustfa Raja and Mario Viana closed out the doubles matches with a 6-3 win over Alfonso Robinson and Rafael Gonzales.  

Rabbouche took on Chen in the opening singles match. Rabbouche was edged out 3-6 in the first set, then was defeated 1-6 in set two. Hassairi fell 4-6, 3-6 in his match against Nilaweera. The Cavaliers secured the match after De Rueda defeated Robinson 6-2, 6-1. Rodgers was then defeated by Wise's Viana 6-2, 6-3. Hofmann and Gonzalez were also defeated in their respective matches and UVa. -Wise would take the match by a score of 7-0.  

UPike will be back in action next Friday in Elkins, W.Va., for a 1:00 p.m. road match at Davis and Elkins College.
