Archery opens play in nationals

 
LANSING, Mich. – The University of Pikeville began play in the 2026 Hotel Planner USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals on Thursday, competing in the qualifying rounds and the mixed team events.
 
The tournament continues at Hope Sports Complex on Saturday and Sunday.
 
In Mixed Team, the most successful team was in Fixed Pins, where senior Nate Harper and junior Emma Willis teamed to make the quarterfinals of the national tournament.
 
After receiving a bye in the opening round, Harper and Willis cruised past Alfred State (N.Y.) College 145-135. In the round of eight, the Bears put up a tough fight but eventually lost to Rio Grande (Ohio) 151-150.
 
Elsewhere in the mixed-team events, seniors Jack Dinapoli and Olivia Hale received a bye in Recurve before falling to Lindsey Wilson 5-4. In Compound, junior Tate Jobe and sophomore Carson Swanger, who also picked up a bye in the opening round, lost to Lindenwood (Mo.) 144-143 in the second round.
 
Finally, in Barebow, junior Heath Dingus and freshman Lindsey Johnson fell to Union Commonwealth 6-0.
 
The top qualifier was Hale in women's recurve. The senior from Cannelton, Ind., came in fourth in the 72-player field with a score of 8.403. She was joined by senior Kennadi Mayer, who posted a score of 7.097, and junior Anna Howard at 6.847.
 
The most successful men were in fixed pins. Harper, a senior from Zanesville, Ohio, qualified 10th in the 69-player field with a score of 9.278. Junior Caden Jones was 15th with a score of 9.181, while Sam Garey was 22nd at 9.054.
 
In men's recurve, Dinapoli, a senior from Louisville, was 22nd out of 64 competitors with a score of 7.806. Also qualifying were Rylan Brooks at 6.111 and Kole Whalen with a score of 6.097.
 
Jobe, a junior from Raceland, qualified 18th in a 61-player field in men's compound with a score of 9.458. Freshman James Mitchel completed a score of 8.558.
 
Swanger led the Bears in the 67-player women's compound field with a score of 8.583, while junior Lydia Ratz finished at 8.528.
 
In men's barebow, Dingus was 18th of 46 with a score of 7.138. He is a junior from Martin. Freshman Matthew Reazola finished at 4.181.
 
Johnson, a freshman from Virgie, Ky., led the Bears in women's barebow with a score of 4.903. Freshman Anna Bond followed with a score of 3.639, while freshman Kailey Johnson posted a score of 3.389.
 
Three Bears finished in the top half of the 50-player field in women's fixed pins. Willis, a junior from Greenup, Ky., was 22nd with a score of 8.681. Senior Dana Wright followed with a score of 8.597, and senior Cassandra Haldeman finished at 8.486.
