HUNTINGTON, W. V. - Junior Gisele Young led the University of Pikeville women's cross country team Friday at the Thundering Herd Invite, hosted by Marshall University.
Young paced the Bears to a sixth-place team finish in the women's 5K race, finishing 48th overall with a time of 25:40.5.
Freshman Chelsea Spears was close behind Young, crossing the finish line in 26:15.6 to place 50th. Sophomore Morgan Tuttle recorded Pikeville's third-fastest time, finishing 55th in 28:23.5.
Junior Michelle Kemoib followed in 56th place with a time of 29:05.8, while freshman Adara Campbell rounded out Pikeville's top five with a 29:45.6 finish.
Senior Ali Cantrell and sophomore Ryleigh Absher also competed for the Bears, finishing in 31:57.5 and 32:06.1, respectively.
UPIKE's top five runners combined for a total time of 2:19:11, averaging 27:51 per runner with a team spread of 4:06.
The Bears' top seven runners posted a combined time of 3:23:15, averaging 29:03 per runner.
UPIKE returns to action on September 18 at the Midway XC Invitational in Versailles, Ky.
