Tim Alderman enters his sixth season as the head men’s tennis coach at UPIKE in 2016-17.
Alderman was selected as the head coach to bring back the Bears’ program in 2012 after not having tennis for three seasons after the 2008 campaign.
Under Alderman’s guidance, UPIKE has posted a winning record in all five seasons, including his best mark of 15-7 in 2014. The Bears have been hard to beat at home since 2012, putting together a 20-4 record at the Bob Amos Tennis Complex.
Alderman has either kept UPIKE in the final national poll or just outside of it in the receiving-votes category in all five of his seasons. The highest ranking recorded was 20th in 2014, followed by a No. 21 ranking in 2013.
Alderman was awarded by his peers in 2016, being named the Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year, while his recruit Enzo Douillac was named the league’s top freshman the same season. In all, Alderman has coached 16 All-MSC selections and had one MSC Player of the Week in Marcos Fondelius on March 12, 2012.
Along with his coaching duties, Alderman has taught at Johns Creek Elementary for more than 20 years. He also coached tennis at Pike County Central High School for four years before taking over at UPIKE.
Alderman is married to his wife, Gena, the couple has a son, Brennan, who played tennis at Pikeville starting with the 2011 season.
