UPIKE volleyball kicks off season

LEBANON, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville women's volleyball team opened its season with four matches in the Volleydawg Classic last weekend.

 

The Bears finished 0-4 in the classic, losing two times to host Cumberland University 3-0, falling to Reinhart (Ga.) 3-0 and Faulkner (Ala.) University 3-1.

 

Sophomore Paige Thacker led Pikeville with 30 kills over the weekend while tossing in six blocks, three solos and three assists. She was followed on the front line by freshman Taylor Watkins with 17 kills, freshman Audrianna Ray with 12 and junior Brittany Hodge with 11.

 

Freshman Alexis Howard had 33 assists, while junior Brooke Parrott added 30.

 

Sophomore Bailey Hamilton had four block assists.

 

Senior Shelby White had a tremendous weekend defensively, finishing with 56 digs.

 

UPike will be back in action on Tuesday night at Virginia Intermont and will have its home opener on Thursday night when it entertains Mountain State at the UPike Gym.

 

First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
