No. 8 Cumberlands knocks off UPIKE

Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The eighth-ranked University of the Cumberlands jumped out to a big lead early and remained unbeaten in Mid-South Conference play with a 65-42 win over the University of Pikeville Thursday night.
 
The Patriots scored the first nine points of the game and led 31-6 en route to a 35-13 halftime lead. Cumberlands shot 41.7 percent from the three-point stripe in the first half while holding the Bears to 17.4 percent shooting before halftime.
 
Cumberlands (19-1, 9-0 in the Mid-South Conference) had three players reach double figures in the game and all 10 players score in the win. Sophomore Jessica Upchurch led all scorers with 19 points in 28 minutes of playing time off the bench. Senior Lauren Wombles followed with 13 points and eight rebounds.
 
Junior Dace Bicane tossed in a double-double for the Patriots, scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds to lead her team to a 44-32 advantage on the glass.
 
Pikeville (4-17, 0-9) had one player reach double figures, as freshman Whitney Belle Jackson scored 11 on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Sophomore Brogan Conley followed with eight points and eight rebounds.
 
The Bears will remain home on Saturday afternoon, playing host to No. 25 Lindsey Wilson College at 2 p.m. The game is preceded by the annual Hall of Fame ceremony in Booth Auditorium at 10:30 a.m.
 
Cumberlands will remain on the road, traveling to Wise for a 2 p.m. opening tip.
