This close: Bears fall to St. Catharine in OT

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ky. – St. Catharine College scored the first seven points of overtime Saturday afternoon and held off the University of Pikeville 71-65.
 
Pikeville (4-22) took the lead with 7.8 seconds left in regulation when sophomore Brogan Conley hit a jumper from the free throw line to make it 58-56.
 
On the other end, Kasei Evans pulled down an offensive rebound and was fouled with 0.4 seconds left. She calmly sank both free throws to send the game to overtime.
 
Evans scored inside with 3:42 left in the extra period to put the Lady Patriots on top. After a layup by Reilly Poirier, Evans beat the shot-clock with a three-pointer with 1:52 left to make it 65-58.
 
From there, Pikeville got no closer than four.
 
Two days after scoring a career-high eight at Campbellsville, freshman Brooke Coleman paced the Bears with 17 markers. Junior Lenae Shouse-Stacy and freshman Whitney Belle Jackson followed with 11 points each.
 
Jackson was one of four Bears with five rebounds each to pace the team.
 
Conley finished with eight points, five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
 
Courtney Milam led St. Catharine with 14 points. Poirier followed with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Riane Hofstraat followed with 10.
 
Evans, who fouled out in overtime, had nine points and a dozen rebounds.
 
Pikeville steps out of the Mid-South Conference for a final time when it hosts Kentucky Christian University on Tuesday night. The game, which will tip off at 7:30 p.m., has been moved to the East Kentucky Expo Center.
 
St. Catharine (20-7, 6-7) will be off until Saturday when it hosts Campbellsville University.
