PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Even though it couldn't come up with a goal, the University of Pikeville men's soccer team played top-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) to a 1-0 deficit at halftime, before ultimately losing 7-0 on Sunday at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex.
The six second-half goals came after
Exon Menjivar picked up his second card two minutes after the break, leaving the Bears a man down for the last 43 minutes.
Lindsey Wilson outshot Pikeville 25-3 overall and 15-1 on goal.
Mateus Meira led UPIKE with two attempts, while
Cooper Gaypia put his lone shot on target before being saved by the Blue Raiders' Yuta Nomura for his only stop of the match.
With Lindsey Wilson controlling the majority of possessions on its side of the field and holding a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks, UPIKE keeper
Diego Rivas came up with five saves and four goals against before leaving with an injury after nearly 68 minutes.
Alfredo Piedra closed out the game in goal, making two saves, while UPIKE was credited with a team save for a second-half block.
Tom Moody, Yazeed Davids and Xavier Baumgart all took five shots each to lead the Blue Raiders.
It took over 40 minutes for Lindsey Wilson to score its first goal, as Renan Serafim finished a cross from Yazeed Davids for what would be the game-winner. Serafim also finished with an assist, feeding Moody for the sixth goal in the 83rd minute.
Jorim Chari led the offense with two goals, coming back-to-back in the 65th and 71st minutes and Moody finished with a pair of assists.
UPIKE is back in action at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Asbury in Wilmore, Ky.
