PIKEVILLE, Ky. – A week after being within five points at No. 9 Campbellsville with less than five minutes to go, the University of Pikeville women's basketball team returns to the road, facing NAIA Div. II Union (Ky.) on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET in Barbourville, Ky.

The Bears got 28 points from
Callisha Johnson before eventually succumbing to nine Tiger threes in a 76-62 loss last week. Saturday's trip to Barbourville will be the third straight road game for Pikeville, but is a step outside of Mid-South Conference play.
Union is 6-2 overall with wins in its last three games, all coming in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. Most recently the Bulldogs edged Virginia Intermont 73-70 on the road.
UPIKE (1-4, 1-1 MSC) and Union are about as evenly matched as two teams can be. The Bears average one more point a game at 76.2 to 75.1 and outshoot Union from the field 43.4 to 42.8 percent. The Bulldogs are slightly better from the 3-point line (34.3-32.5) and hold even less of an advantage rebounding (36.6-36.4).
It could be argued that UPIKE has played a tougher schedule, with all eight of Union's opponents coming from the Div. II level of the NAIA, but that fact will be thrown out when the in-state foes tip off on Saturday.
The Bulldogs won the last meeting in the series 72-69 in 2011, while Pikeville returned the favor with a 72-69 win in 2009. Those last two games were both played in Barbourville.
