Football Travels to the Sunshine State to Face Edward Waters on Saturday

Game Notes | Listen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's been a perfect start to the season for the University of Pikeville football team and it can make it the best start since 2005 with a win at Edward Waters (Fla.) at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The game can be heard live locally on Z107.5 FM, an East Kentucky Broadcasting station, or online at 1075zrock.com.

Not since 2005, when the Bears reached the NAIA Playoffs, has a Pikeville team started the season 3-0.

To get there, UPIKE will have to beat a Tiger team that hasn't performed well over the first two weeks of the season. Edward Waters opened with a 63-12 loss at Alcorn State (Miss.), followed by a 35-22 loss at Point (Ga.) last week.

On the other side of the spectrum is Pikeville, a team picked to finish next to last in the Preseason Mid-South Conference East Division Poll, that has come out of the gates looking polished on both sides of the ball.

The early resume includes a 13-10 season opening win at NCAA Div. I FCS Morehead State and a 56-13 drubbing of MSC foe Bluefield (Va.) last Thursday.

Pikeville is averaging over 425 yards of offense per game, highlighted by the rushing attack of Seth Millar (90.5 ypg), Marquis Terrell (88) and A.J. Graham (51). Jordan Amis is the leading receiver with nine catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively the Bears are led by Jade Haddix with 16 tackles, including three for loss and a sack and John-Dudley Hilton with 15 tackles.
