PIKEVILLE, Ky. – For the first time in series history, No. 25 Pikeville and No. 24 Lindsey Wilson are set to meet on the gridiron as unbeaten, ranked teams when the Bears and Blue Raiders kickoff at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Blue Raider Stadium in Columbia, Ky.
Since Lindsey Wilson resurrected its football program in 2010, Blue Raider head coach Chris Oliver has found a way to beat the Bears, winning all three matchups with exciting fourth quarter finishes.
The Blue Raiders won 53-36 last season after scoring 22 straight points in the fourth quarter, 28-24 in 2011 and 59-52 in 2010. The past two matchups were played in Pikeville.
Saturday's game can be seen live on Pike TV and heard on either Z-Rock 107.5 FM on East Kentucky Broadcasting or on Gearheart's WIFX 94.3 FM.
Both UPIKE and Lindsey Wilson found themselves on the outside looking in on the Preseason NAIA Coaches' Top-25 Poll, with neither team even receiving a vote, but after a pair of perfect starts each school has found a place in the rankings.
Pikeville hasn't had a start to a season like this since 2005 when it won its first five games and ultimately made an appearance in the NAIA Playoffs.
The Bears are 1-0 against Mid-South Conference East Division opponents this season, while Saturday is the first divisional game for Lindsey Wilson.
Only seven teams in the nation are off to 3-0 starts and the two teams meeting in Columbia on Saturday have very similar resumes.
The Bears are averaging 38.7 points per game, one point more than the Blue Raiders at 37.7 points per contest. Pikeville also holds a slight lead in total offensive yards per game at 465.7 to 454. The teams are tied for the MSC lead in turnover margin at +1.7.
