BEREA, Ky. – The University of Pikeville volleyball team breezed to a 3-0 win over Alice Lloyd (Ky.), but lost a 3-1 battle to St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Saturday during the final day of the Spoonbread Smash hosted by Berea College.
With the split, the Bears move to 8-7 overall and look ahead to Mid-South Conference action on Monday when Lindsey Wilson comes to Pikeville at 7 p.m. ET.
 
Pikeville 3, Alice Lloyd 0
Sydney Hall led UPIKE against Alice Lloyd with eight kills and two blocks. Hall was 8 of 17 on the attack for a .353 hitting percentage as the Bears hit .211 as a team to seal the win.
Sydney Morris orchestrated the offense for 26 assists, while 
Dominique Melvin paced the defense with eight digs. 
Haley Johnson had her longest stint on the court this season, finishing with three kills, five aces and a pair of digs.
St. Louis Pharmacy 3, UPIKE 1
Pikeville took St. Louis College of Pharmacy past regulation in the first set for a 27-25 loss, then won the second set 25-17 before giving up the match with in the final two frames.
St. Louis Pharmacy reversed the score for a 25-17 win in the third before closing it out 25-20 in the fourth. Hall had another big match, sending over 12 kills at a .320 clip, while 
Chelsea Staples added nine kills on 20 attempts for a .200 percentage.
Melvin once again led the Bears in digs with 12 and Hall finished with four blocks.
