PIKEVILLE, Ky. –
Campbellsville may have beaten the University of Pikeville volleyball team 3-0, but it wasn't an easy road to the shutout, sneaking by 32-30 and 25-19 in the first two sets before finishing off the Bears 25-7 in the final frame on Friday at the UPIKE Gym.

Sydney Hall led Pikeville (9-9. 1-5 MSC) with six kills, five blocks and a dig while hitting .087 on a team-high 23 swings. The Bears wrapped up the match hitting .047 as a team, while Campbellsville used efficient second and third sets to hit .238.

The Tigers (12-2, 6-1 MSC) finished much better than they started, committing a match-high 15 errors in the first set with 15 kills for an even .000 hitting mark. It was also the only set that UPIKE jumped out to a lead in, going up 4-2 on an error by Giselle Hernandez.

Pikeville would never lead by more than two points in the set, but kept it close throughout. The Tigers did build a lead as large as five at 20-15, but that also cued up the Bears' best stretch of the match.

UPIKE went on a 9-2 run to make it 24-22 which included two kills from Rachel Murphy and four Campbellsville errors. The Bears weren't able to finish off the win as they wasted six set-points before an ace by Kelley Moyer made it 32-30.

The second set was a close one as well, with 18 ties before Campbellsville went on an 8-1 run at the end of the frame to claim a six-point win. Pikeville led 18-17 after a kill from Chelsea Staples, but six points and four aces from Moyer later the Tigers were up 23-18. Moyer had six aces in the match.

After coming close in the first two sets, the Bears finally had one get away from them as Campbellsville hit .636 with 14 kills and no errors on 22 swings. With that kind of success, the Tigers built a lead as large as 18 points on Rinata Aisena's kill to make it 25-7.

Aisena led the Tigers with 14 kills at a .320 clip, Jackie Schwieger dished out a match-high 33 assists and Caitlin Dresing led the match with 10 digs. Campbellsville out blocked the Bears 12-9 with Daiane Souza pacing the defense with four blocks.

Sydney Morris tallied 18 assists, Dominique Melvin picked up nine digs and Audri Ray added a pair of blocks for UPIKE.

The Bears are back in action at 7 p.m. ET on Monday at Rio Grande, Ohio.
