PIKEVILLE, Ky. –
Managing to take just three shots in the game, the University of Pikeville men's soccer team lacked the firepower to beat Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday night, losing 5-0 at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex.

Dean Johnson attempted a pair of shots with one on goal and Exon Menjivar added another, but the offensive story belonged to the Patriots in this one.

Matthew Worley scored twice in the second half, putting two shots into the back of the net with just under 50 seconds between them in the 72nd minute. Two minutes later, Calen Stockwell dribbled nearly 50 yards to put away the final goal on his own for the 5-0 lead.

It was a closely contested match before the late trio of scores. At halftime, Cumberlands led 2-0 after a 24th-minute strike from Ariel Castanon off a cross from Zach Bell and Luke Villers finishing off a corner kick from Ciaran Tracey in the 43rd.

The Patriots led the match in shots 12-3 and shots on frame 8-1, while also holding a large advantage in fouls 18-11.

Each team attempted two corner kicks, gaining one attempt in each half.

Bear goalkeeper Diego Rivas scooped up three saves and the Patriots' Alex Swoboda finished with one. Both keepers played the full 90 minutes in goal.

With the win, Cumberlands improves to 3-3-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in Mid-South Conference play. Pikeville drops to 3-5 overall and 1-2 against MSC competition.

UPIKE is back on the field at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday at third-ranked Rio Grande (Ohio).
