PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Rio Grande is having one of its best starts in men's and women's basketball in school history and Thursday night it will be the University of Pikeville's job to stop it with the women tipping off at 6 p.m. ET, followed by the men's game at 8 p.m. at the East Ky. Expo Center.

The RedStorm come into Thursday night with a 14-5 overall record and 3-4 mark in Mid-South Conference games on the women's side. This is just a year after posting a 2-18 record in league games. UPIKE won both matchups last season, but trails the all-time series 11-8.

Rio Grande is ranked in a top-25 poll for the first time since 2009 on the men's side, sporting a 13-5 record and No. 20 national ranking in the NAIA Coaches' Poll. Like the women, the RedStorm had a difficult 11-19 campaign last year, but have added 11 new players to energize the program.

The UPIKE women need a win to strengthen their fight to remain in the top eight of the MSC standings as only eight teams qualify for the conference tournament. In Thursday's men's game, the Bears and RedStorm are playing for sole possession of first-place in the MSC with matching 6-1 league records.
