PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville women's basketball team was all business Thursday night, winning 76-61 over Bluefield (Va.) at the East Ky. Exposition Center.
The Bears opened strong with a 9-0 run and then never trailed throughout the game.
Callisha Johnson led UPIKE (9-12, 4-6 MSC) with 18 points, narrowly topping the 17 points of
Lakeria Crowder, who came off the bench to log 26 minutes after a minor first-half injury limited
Kelah Eldridge.
Cheyenne Madden added 15 points, while
Khalilah Quigley put in a blue-collar performance to record 15 points and a team-high nine boards.
The Rams' Janee Simmons led all scorers with 23 points and tied teammate Destiny Tolliver with 11 rebounds for a double-double. Teqa McNeal was the only other Ram in double figures with 17 points. In addition to her 11 rebounds, Tolliver also registered 9 blocks, more than all other players combined.
It was a very classy performance for the Bears, with Bluefield (9-9, 4-6 MSC) able to tie the game on two occasions, but never quite able to put itself ahead.
UPIKE is back at it Saturday, traveling to West Virginia Tech for a 2 p.m. ET tipoff in Montgomery, W. Va.
