PIKEVILLE, Ky. – There was no answer for Campbellsville's Mhairi Fyfe on Thursday night as she tallied a pair of goals and assists to push the Tigers past the University of Pikeville women's soccer team 5-0 at Shelby Valley High School.
The game was moved and delayed to a 9 p.m. ET kickoff due to unsafe playing conditions at the Bob Amos Complex, but Fyfe was going to cause problems no matter the venue. The speedy forward from Scotland fired a game-high nine shots, putting seven of them on target to help Campbellsville (7-6, 2-2 MSC) maintain possession.
Led by Fyfe's output, Campbellsville outshot UPIKE 23-2, including a 15-0 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks went in favor of the Tigers 6-2, while fouls went the Bears' way 9-7. Tiger goalkeeper Amanda Howard picked up the clean sheet without having to make a save. On UPIKE's side, Chelsea Schulte kept busy, wrapping up 10 saves while her teammates also blocked three shots.
Kaitlyn Abdon and Jasmiine Davis tallied the Bears' two shot attempts with Abdon's having the best chance after the ball skipped away from Howard, but she didn't get clean contact on the attempt and sent it wide.
Campbellsville struck its first goal in the sixth minute with Fyfe finishing a cross from Devon Burnside. Then the action stalled for about 34 minutes before Burnside made it 2-0 in the 40th minute and Annie Hare added a third goal with 50 seconds left in the first half.
The Tigers added goals by Chelsea Gill in the 72nd minute and Fyfe again in the 89th to put the game away.
UPIKE (8-4, 2-2 MSC) gets back on the pitch at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday at No. 6 Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Ky.
