Cook, Murphy Not Enough for Volleyball at Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Connor Cook and Rachel Murphy both tallied six kills for the University of Pikeville volleyball team on Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough to get past Campbellsville as the Tigers tallied a 3-0 win at the Powell Athletic Center.

The Tigers posted set wins of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-17 as the UPIKE offense struggled most of the night. It hit its roughest patch in the first set with a -.250 hitting percentage, but bounced back with marks of .211 and .088 to finish at .065 for the match.

Campbellsville, on the other hand, was efficient in all three sets, culminating with a .333 team hitting percentage. The Tigers were 18-of-35 attacking in the second set with just two errors and got 12 kills from Jana Kortas and 11 from Brianna Harman.

UPIKE led 2-1 in the first set and 3-2 in the third, but failed to get any more separation. It looked like it might have one last push at 16-12 in the final set, but Campbellsville went on a 5-0 run to take advantage of the frame for good.

Sydney Morris had a nice night setting, finishing with 17 assists, while Caitlynn Pfaadt led the Bears with nine digs and Sydney Hall posted a team-high two solo blocks.

The Bears return to the court at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday at St. Catharine, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll.
