PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Chelsea Schulte made the save, but a rebound in the 86th minute led to a game-winning goal for Shawnee State in a 1-0 win over the University of Pikeville women's soccer team on Saturday.
Schulte collected seven saves, including five in the first half, but the UPIKE offense failed to finish despite firing seven shots. SSU keeper Mollie King played a big role in that, collecting a pair of saves to register that shutout win with a full 90 minutes in goal.
Jenny Campbell, who took eight total shots with five on frame, scored the game winner from just six-yards out, directly following a shot by Maddie Woodard that was pushed out by Schulte.
While UPIKE only took two shots on goal, it finished with an advantage in corner-kick opportunities at 3-1, but never got a good touch around the goal. Shawnee State led the game in total shots 15-7 and fouls 14-6 and also picked up a yellow card in each half.
Olivia Gipson was the only UPIKE player to register multiple shot attempts with two, although Carmen Koster and Jocelyn Davis fired the shots on goal.
UPIKE, which has dropped three straight games in Mid-South Conference play, gets back on the field at 7 p.m. ET on Monday at Union in Bourbourville, Ky. Following that, the Bears host Georgetown on Nov. 1 in the regular-season finale at the Bob Amos Complex.
