Women’s Soccer Falls at Union 3-0

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Offensive struggles for the University of Pikeville women's soccer team continued on Monday night as the Bears lost at Union 3-0 under the lights at Williamson Stadium.

UPIKE drops to an even 8-8 overall as it had no answer for the Bulldogs' Aline Dalmedico who scored goals in the 16th and 65th minutes. With 13 minutes to play, the Bears also got stuck with an own goal after the ball hit off a UPIKE defender's foot and rolled into the back of the net.

Even with Dalmedico firing a game-high eight shots, Union and UPIKE tied with 13 attempts each. UPIKE even posted a slight advantage in shots on goal at 10-9, but couldn't get anything past goalkeepers Kendall Ellington and Juliana Schardong.

Ellington played the first 45 minutes and wrapped up five saves, while Schardong played the entire second half with five saves as well. The Bears' Chelsea Schulte collected six saves in a full, 90-minute effort.

Kaitlyn Abdon paced Pikeville with seven shot attempts that were all on frame and both teams ended up with just one corner-kick attempt.

UPIKE has come up empty on the scoreboard in four straight losses, last scoring in a 3-2 win at West Virginia Tech on Oct. 13. Its next chance will be at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday in the regular-season finale against Georgetown at the Bob Amos Complex.
