Volleyball Drops Match with IU East 3-0 on Sunday

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. -- Haley Esquivel sent down a team-best seven kills and Chelsea Staples posted a pair of solo blocks, but it wasn't enough to stop the consistent attack of IU East as the University of Pikeville volleyball team lost 3-0 on Sunday at Alice Lloyd College.

The Red Wolves (18-11) outhit the Bears .264 to .079 and got a big-time performance from Mallory Livingston with 10 kills, seven digs and a block to help register set wins of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-21.

UPIKE drops to 13-16 overall with the loss and will get a chance to snap its five-match losing streak at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday against Shawnee State (Ohio) at UPIKE Gym.

IU East posted a 9-5 advantage in total blocks and tallied a 35-28 advantage in digs. Red Wolf setter Katelyn Kelly dished out a match-high 24 assists, while UPIKE's Sydney Morris finished with 18. While UPIKE posted eight aces, it also hit 10 errors compared to seven by the Red Wolves.

Other leaders for the Bears in the loss were Connor Cook and Morris with five kills each, Sydney Hall with four and Staples adding three. Cecilia Ray hit three aces and Caitlynn Pfaadt collected eight digs.
