BEREA, Ky. – Thirteen errors on serve and trailing in blocks 14-5 led to the University of Pikeville volleyball team being swept 3-0 at Berea on Tuesday night at the Seabury Center.
Sydney Hall and Connor Cook led the Bears with eight and seven kills, respectively, but it wasn't enough to overcome hitting .000 and .091 as a team in the first two sets. UPIKE got in a groove in the third set, outhitting Berea .469 to .241, but still dropped the frame 29-17 to end the match.
Cook was definitely a bright spot, connecting on seven kills in 14 attempts for a .500 mark while also picking up three digs. Setter Sydney Morris paced the defense with nine digs and two blocks, while also dishing out a match-high 25 assists.
Berea utilized a balanced attack as Simone Brown led the way with eight kills, followed by Taylor Ashworth and LeAnna Luney with five and Nicole Baker adding four. Megan Killer ran the offense with 12 assists and Kyra Robinson paced the strong-blocking Mountaineers with six total stops at the net.
It's a short rest for UPIKE as it returns home at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday against No. 9 Lindsey Wilson at UPIKE Gym.
