Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Gibson, Quigley Help Women’s Basketball Overwhelm Alice Lloyd 109-75

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Shekinah Gibson scored 20 points and Khalilah Quigley added 16 points and eight rebounds as the University of Pikeville women's basketball team overwhelmed visiting Alice Lloyd 109-75 on Tuesday at the East Ky. Expo Center.

The Eagles managed just eight assists, compared to 28 for UPIKE and shot just 34.8 percent from the field and only hit four of their 20 3-point attempts. Add in being outrebounded 63-42 and it was a rough night for the Eagles.

UPIKE (3-0) played unselfishly and got plenty of easy looks underneath, leading to a 78-44 advantage in points in the paint and a 52.3 percent shooting mark from the field. The final margin could have been a lot worse if it wasn't for a poor showing from the free-throw line where the Bears hit just 15-of-27 attempts.

Still the dishes in the paint allowed UPIKE to quickly build a double-digit lead at 24-14 with 13 minutes left in the first half. The 9-2 run to get there was accomplished in less than two minutes as Quigley hit a three and Aundrea Matchen connected on back-to-back jumpers to spearhead the attack.

The Bears' lead never reached single digits again in the game, instead growing to as many as 36 points on Jennifer Keene's layup off an assist from Kelah Eldridge.

Sixteen points was as close as the Eagles (3-1) would get the rest of the way, reaching that deficit twice within the first two minutes of the second half.

No one from UPIKE played more than 22 minutes and Matchen, Dinyell Calvert and Dee Foster all reached double-digits scoring as well with 10 points each. Foster and Quigley tied for the game high in rebounds with eight apiece and Jamie Castle finished with six points and seven assists in just 12 minutes off the bench.

Serena Nickell led Alice Lloyd with 13 points and Carla Booth and Madison Reed both added 11.

UPIKE is back in action at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday against Shawnee State (Ohio) in the Mid-South Conference opener at the East Ky. Expo Center. SSU is receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll.
